A man being investigated by Dallas police was shot and killed by officers Wednesday night at Children’s Medical Center Dallas, police said.

While investigating a suspect at about 11 p.m., the department’s fugitive unit was led to the parking lot of the hospital at 1934 Medical District Drive as officers followed the man, police Chief Daniel Comeaux said outside the hospital late Wednesday.

The man barricaded himself in his vehicle. Comeaux said officers used tear gas as a way to draw him out.

As the man got out of the vehicle, he pointed a gun toward officers, according to Comeaux.

The man, who was not identified by officials, died at the scene after he was shot by officers, Comeaux said.

Dallas police did not immediately provide details to The Dallas Morning News regarding why officers with the fugitive unit were investigating the man.

This shooting is the fourth reported officer-involved shooting in 2026. The last shooting occurred Feb.8 when 22-year-old James Thomas was shot and killed at a Love Field-area apartment.
