A cult favorite ice cream brand is finally opening in San Antonio. The Shops of La Cantera has scooped the city’s first location of Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams, converting a former Bahama Bucks shaved ice stand into a frosty new shop.

The brand confirmed the Alamo City debut as a teaser in its March newsletter and on social media, but did not share a location. State regulatory filings say it will be at 15900 La Cantera Pkwy.

Although its pints have been long available at local gourmet grocers like Central Market and Royal Blue, Jeni’s has thus far skipped San Antonio for other Texas locales. It currently has several shops in Austin, Dallas, and Houston.

Each parlor carries a wide variety of scoops in cones, flights, and pints in a rotating lineup of 19 creative flavors. Guests can expect classics like sweet cream, along with creations like gooey butter cake, powdered jelly doughnut, watermelon taffy, wildberry lavender, and goat cheese with red cherries.

Recently, the brand also partnered with Netflix on two Bridgerton-inspired ice creams: Earl Grey Crème Brûlée and Queen Charlotte Sponge Cake.

Since it was founded in Ohio by James Beard Award winner Jeni Britton Bauer in 2002, the brand has grown quickly with a bestselling cookbook, retail offerings, and locations in 15 states and Washington, D.C. The San Antonio opening is part of a four-store expansion that includes shops in Tennessee, South Carolina, and Georgia.

The brand hasn’t officially announced an opening timeframe, but Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation filings say that the kiosk renovations will wrap up at the end of May. State project details are subject to change without notice.
