A major development has emerged in the long-running case of Angela Marisol Diaz, a young Houston woman who disappeared nearly two years ago. Court records show a suspect is now facing murder charges in connection with her death.
Justin Scarbrough has been charged with the murder of Diaz, according to court records.
Diaz was reported missing nearly two years ago, and investigators have been following the case since her disappearance.
Court records indicate the 22-year-old may have been a victim of sex trafficking before she disappeared. A man who police questioned after Diaz went missing was later charged with promoting prostitution, raising concerns that she may have been forced into sex work.
Nearly a year ago, human remains were discovered in a wooded area near Johnson Space Center. DNA testing later confirmed the skeletal remains belonged to Diaz.
The family of the 22-year-old received confirmation of the identification months later.
“It is with great sorrow that I share this heartbreaking update,” Edward Diaz, Angela’s father, said in a statement in September 2025. “As we grieve this unimaginable loss, I am determined to seek justice for my daughter.”
Authorities said Diaz’s cause of death had not been determined at the time the remains were identified.
Court documents previously obtained by KHOU 11 revealed disturbing details about the investigation into Diaz’s disappearance.
According to those records, detectives interviewed a man who told them he tracked Diaz using an app called Life360 on her phone and claimed he dropped her off at a motel along the Gulf Freeway late on June 30, 2024.
Police also interviewed another man who said he had agreed to meet Diaz to pay for sex. Investigators believe he may have been the last person to see her before she disappeared.
In addition to the murder charge, Scarbrough is also charged with tampering with Diaz’s body after her death.
Scarbrough is scheduled to appear in court Friday morning.
