SAN ANTONIO – Abilene Christian baseball dropped a 13-1 ballgame to Incarnate Word at Sullivan Field on Wednesday afternoon.

The Wildcats look to return to the win column this weekend as they host Loyola Marymount for a three-game series at Crutcher Scott Field at Bullock Brothers Ballpark. ACU kicks off Big Country Weekend at 6 p.m. Friday before games at 3 p.m. Saturday and 12 p.m. Sunday.

Zandt Payne, Grant Watkins and Kanon Sundgren collected the Wildcats’ three hits, with Payne and Watkins each recording a double. Payne opened the sixth inning with a two-bagger and advanced to third on a Watkins fly out before scoring on a passed ball.

Payne extended his reached-safely streak to 11 games. He has scored a run in each of his last five games with eight total runs. Nick Arias drew ACU’s only walk.

Noah Galvan was the Wildcats’ top pitcher, logging 1.2 scoreless frames out of the bullpen. He allowed just one hit and struck out a batter after entering with the bases loaded in the bottom of the second. Will Patterson and Chase Batten combined for a scoreless inning.
