Full Klein ISD Statement:
Dear Zwink Families,
We want to make you aware of a situation that occurred in the front office. All students and staff remain safe, and the matter has been handled by law enforcement.
Yesterday afternoon, an individual entered the front door shortly after an authorized guest exited the front door without fully securing it unknowingly. Our front office staff immediately engaged the individual, who was dressed in what appeared to be a uniform and had a holstered firearm. When the individual was asked by the front office staff to provide identification, he did not provide identification, and the front office staff immediately contacted our armed, full-time campus guard. The individual then exited the front office and drove away without incident. At no time did the individual access any part of the building beyond the front office, and at no time were students or staff harmed.
Klein ISD Police responded immediately, reviewing security camera footage and working alongside the Texas Department of Public Safety, Harris County Sheriff’s Office, and local law enforcement partners to identify and locate the individual. The Harris County District Attorney has accepted felony charges, and the individual was arrested at approximately 6:30 PM today.
We want to be transparent about why you are receiving this message now. From the moment the individual left the front office, we were actively working with multiple law enforcement agencies to identify and apprehend this individual. Sending a public notification during that window could have jeopardized those efforts, tipped off the suspect, and delayed the arrest. Law enforcement had the individual under constant surveillance today, and out of an abundance of caution, additional security measures were in place on campus, including increased police presence. Law enforcement had full awareness and command of the situation.
We commend our front office staff and full-time armed campus guard for their quick actions in following our safety procedures, which resulted in the individual immediately leaving the front office without incident. We also thank our Klein ISD Police Department officers and responding law enforcement personnel for their swift efforts in identifying and arresting the individual.
If you have questions or concerns, please contact Zwink Elementary at (832) 375-7800 or Klein ISD Police at (832) 249-4266.
Thank you for your continued trust and partnership in keeping our campus safe.
Sincerely,
Linda Galicia, Principal, Zwink Elementary
