CALDWELL, Idaho (CBS2) — A Houston man was arrested in Caldwell on March 10 after police said he used stolen credit card information to buy hundreds of dollars’ worth of gift cards at a local grocery store, part of what investigators believe may be a wider fraud scheme spanning multiple states and the Treasure Valley.
Jiaxing Guan, 32, of Houston, Texas, was arrested by the Nampa and Caldwell Police Departments in Caldwell. He was charged with burglary, forgery, and criminal possession of a bank card.
Before the arrest, Nampa police said they were alerted to a fraudulent situation at a local grocery store where Guan purchased hundreds of dollars’ worth of gift cards and an Easter basket using stolen credit card information.
Investigators said the investigation is ongoing and they are working to identify any Idaho victims. Police are asking anyone who believes their credit card information may have been stolen or used to purchase gift cards without their knowledge, or anyone who saw Guan making purchases in the past couple of days, to contact investigators at hooverd@cityofnampa.us or by leaving a voicemail at 208-565-5144.
