EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14/CBS4) — Approximately 6,000 women enter menopause every day, according to the National Library of Medicine. Research also shows that the years before menopause, called perimenopause, can be confusing for millions of women who don’t recognize the symptoms.
The Federal Drug Administration removed black box warnings from hormonal replacement therapy products in November of 2025.
The labels included risks of cardiovascular diseases, breast cancer and potential dementia for women who took the hormones. It came from the 2002 Women’s Health Initiative Randomized Controlled Trial.
However, most participants were well past the menopausal transition, and the hormone regimen tested doesn’t reflect the options commonly used today.
The study shows the women in their mid-60s were given higher doses of oral hormones, which skewed the results.
