An armed suspect who barricaded himself in the parking garage of a children’s hospital in Dallas overnight Wednesday was fatally shot after pointing a gun at police officers, officials said.
Officers with the Dallas Fugitive Unit were conducting an investigation “related to a wanted suspect” about 11 p.m. Wednesday, Dallas Police Chief Daniel Comeaux said at a news conference. The officers followed the man to Children’s Medical Center Dallas, located at 1935 Medical District Drive.
The suspect barricaded himself inside his vehicle in the parking garage, according to Comeaux. The Dallas Police Department’s SWAT team responded and used tear gas to get the man out of the car, police said.
“He had a gun — he pointed the gun towards the officers,” Comeaux said.
The officers fired their service weapons, hitting the suspect. A SWAT doctor provided aid for the man, but he died at the scene, according to Comeaux.
Officials haven’t released the suspect’s name or publicly identified the officers involved. Comeaux didn’t specifiy why the man was wanted by police.
No officers were injured in the incident, according to Comeaux. The shooting is under investigation.
