(KNUE-FM) We all know that driverless vehicles will likely be the way of the future; we are seeing some of that already in place here in Texas. But it seems as though some of the vehicles are still working to make improvements, including being as safe as possible around train tracks.

Video Shows Waymo Car Near Train Tracks in Austin

According to KXAN, there is a video circulating on social media of a Waymo autonomous vehicle in Austin that is stopped in between train tracks and a railroad stop arm just as a CapMetro train travels by.

The video was recorded on Saturday, March 7, which shows the driverless vehicle stopping just before the train tracks, but leaving many people online feeling that it was too close for comfort.

As expected the company Waymo did explain that the light was changing from green to red. And as soon as the light became red, the vehicle began braking to stop before the crossing without being rear-ended by a car behind it.

The company went on to say that the vehicle stopped 2.5 meters before the train tracks. While it was after the stop arm, it was still determined the vehicle was a safe distance away from the tracks.

The same thing happened for a second time, but again, Waymo explained that the vehicle stopped more than 2.5 meters before the train tracks when the lights were activated.

While determined to be safe, the company is putting into place stricter parameters to help customers reduce their concerns.
