The Crayola Experience at The Shops at Willow Bend in Plano is set to permanently close, the latest sign of change at a mall that has long been slated for redevelopment and is now a potential landing spot for the Dallas Stars.

Following weeks of temporary closures and a brief reopening, Crayola announced the permanent closure of the attraction on its social media accounts March 11, calling it “disappointing and frustrating. The facility was operated by Brite Manageme/BriteColors LLC. The store spanned about 60,000 square feet, according to various media reports.

Crayola’s closure, along with the pending closure of the North Texas Performing Arts office at Shops at Willow Bend, opens the door for more speculation that the mall along the Dallas North Tollway could welcome the NHL team.

Cawley Partners President Bill Cawley — whose real estate investment firm owns the mall along with Centennial Real Estate and Waterfall Asset Management — said this week that negotiations with the Stars are ongoing but declined commenting further on the NHL team’s possible move to Plano.
