Last week, Steers and Lady Blues tennis players traveled to Arlington for a tournament, bringing home some big wins before district.
Head coach Matt Birdwell commented on the team’s growth over the course of this season.
“Week after week, they have been improving and getting better,” Birdwell said. “After spring break it’s a quick sprint to the district tournament. So keeping the kids improving and focused is what we will be working on.”
Jade Dospapas and Kline Krupp finished at the top of the girls doubles bracket in first place. Stacey Gonzalez and Hope Jones were right behind them taking second place as a team.
Both of the doubles teams beat Mansfield High School in tie breaker matches with Dospapas and Kline winning their match 8-5 to advance to the finals.
The boys side of the doubles bracket also saw Graham have success as the team of Keigan Garland and Jordan Miranda finished in second place. The team of Tyler Bryan and Brooklyn Tarsoaga came in right behind them as consolation champions.
Chris Reyes was the star of the show for the boys in individual matchups as he took home first place in the boys singles bracket. Manjot Humpal also saw herself walk out of the tournament successful, finishing in second place for girls singles matches.
Lauren White finished the tournament as a consolation champion in the girls singles division.
The next meet is scheduled at 8 a.m. Thursday, March 19 in Bowie for the Jackrabbit Classic. The team will continue to look for steady improvement as they get into the latter half of their season.
