SAN ANTONIO — City officials announced an emergency street closure Friday due to a structural issue with construction scaffolding downtown.

San Antonio Fire Department officials said a building under construction at the intersection of Soledad and Commerce Street was affected.

Fire crews were called for reports that scaffolding looked like it was about to collapse. Officials said the scaffolding “buckled” and lost support however did not actually collapse.

Crews immediately began efforts to stabilize and block off the area from foot traffic, clearing sidewalks, streets, and nearby buildings.

Officials are waiting on the scaffolding contractor who they say has a plan in place to start stabilizing the scaffolding itself, a process which they anticipate will take between 12 to 15 hours.

The scaffolding on the east face of the building by a neighboring hotel is secure. No injuries were reported.
