Everybody has an opinion on people in office and public matters that must be voted on but, apparently, not many in El Paso will actually get off their ass and go vote.
No matter who you like or what party you side with or what side of a voter issue you’re on; you don’t help your cause or hurt the other side if you don’t freakin’ vote.
It’s not that hard, there are a ton of places to do it and … if you take part in early voting … the lines aren’t usually too bad. Election day is a different story but, with early voting, you have multiple locations and more than 1 day to get ‘er dun so it’s usually pretty quick.
Still though, El Paso had a teeny little showing at the polls for the recent primary elections.
How Many El Pasoans Voted?
El Paso has a population of 678,723, of which, 523,928 are registered voters. (Source) That’s a lot, right? It is a pretty impressive number … if all of them show up,
El Paso County has about 523,000 registered voters, and saw a high voter turnout of about 18% – a total of 92,897 ballots cast, according to the El Paso County Elections Department. About 32,000 votes were cast in the Democratic races for El Paso County Commissioners Court and about 9,700 on the Republican ballot for those offices. – elpasoinc

18% is “high”? That’s way too few. This isn’t 1 or 2 people staying home, 18% voting means over 80% stayed home. A lot of the things people voted on would have turned out much differently if all the registered voters had cast their ballots.
These were the primaries, next come the midterms on November 3rd. Hopefully, EVERYBODY shows up for that one. If you have any questions about voting … when, where, how, am I registered, etc … whatever; click here.
