ABILENE, Texas — A man has been arrested in Fort Worth on a first-degree murder warrant in connection with a hit-and-run death in Abilene, authorities said.

On Friday, March 13, 2026, the United States Marshals Office out of Abilene arrested Cristopher Covington-Smith in Fort Worth on a warrant for first-degree murder out of Taylor County.
Covington-Smith was wanted in the death of 31-year-old Corrisa Trowbridge, who Abilene police identified as the victim in Thursday morning’s hit-and-run fatality.

Officers said they were called to the area of Corsicana and Blue Quail Drive around 4 a.m. Thursday. When they arrived, they found a female victim who appeared to have been struck by a vehicle. Police have said they are working to determine exactly what happened.
Authorities said Covington-Smith was identified as a possible suspect in the vehicular homicide and fled the area. With assistance from law enforcement partners, including the U.S. Marshals, he was taken into custody, officials said.
Before the arrest, detectives had asked for the public’s help locating Covington-Smith and said a murder warrant had been issued in connection with the Thursday morning hit-and-run homicide.
Police had asked anyone with information on his location to contact Police Dispatch at (325) 673-8331, or Abilene Crime Stoppers at (325) 676-8477 (TIPS) to remain anonymous and potentially be eligible for a cash reward.
The Abilene Police Department thanked its law enforcement partners for assisting in Covington-Smith’s capture and said he will soon be extradited to Abilene to face the murder charge. The investigation is ongoing.
