EL PASO, TEXAS (KFOX14/CBS4) — Animal lovers will have a chance to meet adoptable pets and support local rescues at the next Pawscars event, a red carpet-style pet awards hosted by Rescue Re-Shot Project, a nonprofit organization.

Professional photographers will join forces with local animal rescues and shelters ahead of the 2026 Oscars on March 15 in an effort to help pets find forever homes while raising money for participating nonprofits.

The Pawscars will run from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Be Our Guest Event Center, located at 1830 George Dieter Drive, Suite 114, and will feature planned activities, including adoptable pets, local vendors, and pet resources such as microchips and vaccines.

The Pawscars will also have awards celebrating the personalities and stories of local dogs with categories in Best Dressed, Best Dressed Male Pet, and Best Dressed Female Pet, as the event will feature live red carpet judging by a panel of guest judges.

While all pets are welcome, organizers encourage dressing in the theme of “Hollywood glam.”

The event is hosted by Lilian and Jaime Blanco of Capture That Pooch Pet Photography and the Rescue Re-Shot Project, a nonprofit that provides professional photography for shelter and rescue animals to help them get adopted.

Speaking to KFOX14/CBS4 ahead of the event, during a furry special photoshoot, Lilian, president of the Rescue Re-Shot Project, said the event grew out of a desire to raise funds for the organization.

“My husband and I were wanting to fundraise for our nonprofit, Rescue Re-Shot,” Blanco said.

She said the idea took inspiration from the Academy Awards.

“We thought Oscars and were like ‘Oh my God, Pawscars would be such a fun idea,” Blanco said.

Blanco added that the event will also raise funds for the two participating nonprofits, Luna’s Foster and Huckleberry Hound.
