The National Weather Service Forth Worth/Dallas is warning residents about conditions over the weekend that could lead to fire risk.

The NWS Fort Worth/Dallas issued a bulletin about the strong winds and fire concerns on Friday afternoon.

According to the bulletin, very strong north winds are expected on Sunday behind a cold front as it moves through the region.

Some Locations May See Wind Gusts Over 55 MPH

Before the front, breezy south winds will occur, but behind the front, winds are expected to gust between 40-50 mph. Some locations may even see wind gusts over 55 mph.

These conditions will make driving difficult on west-east roads, especially for high profile vehicles. Therefore, travelers should take precautions and residents should secure any outdoor objects before Sunday.

Additionally, boating on open water at area lakes will be hazardous to small craft. Please make weekend plans accordingly.

Fire Concerns on Sunday

The very strong winds and low humidity behind Sunday’s cold front will result in high to critical fire weather conditions in the afternoon mainly along and west of I-35.

Residents should avoid any activities that could spark a wildfire, as fires could spread rapidly under these circumstances.

Locations east of I-35 may experience elevated conditions, but humidity values will be higher. A few showers and isolated storms are possible across East Texas and parts of Central Texas on Sunday.
