Texas Tech Softball drops its first Big 12 contest of the season

  • March 14, 2026

LUBBOCK, Texas (TTU) – No. 2 Texas Tech (25-2, 3-1) dropped game one to No. 12/13 Arizona (21-5, 4-0) on Friday night. Arizona put up crooked numbers in the third and the fifth and kept Tech hitters off-balance as they won 9-0 in five innings.

NiJaree Canady had a high strikeout total (8) through 4.0 innings of work but allowed nine runs, four earned, before Samantha Lincoln came in to close out the game and allowed just one base runner in the final inning of play.

Tech’s offense wasn’t its usual self, recording just four hits, only one of which was an extra-base hit.

How it Happened:

Arizona’s offense capitalized on two Red Raider errors in the third inning and hit back-to-back home runs including a three-run shot. The Wildcats turned around and loaded the bases with no outs which allowed Grace Jenkins to hit her second home run of the day, a grand slam, which put Arizona up 9-0 and put the game in run-rule territory.

Tech had a chance to get some runs in the bottom of the fourth with runners on second and third thanks to a single by Jasmyn Burns and a double by Taylor Pannell but weren’t able to capitalize as the Wildcat’s Jalen Adams forced a pair of pop flies and a ground out to get out of the inning.

Arizona closed out the game in bottom of the fifth with a three-up, three-down performance.

UP NEXT: The Red Raiders will continue their series against the Wildcats tomorrow with a doubleheader beginning at noon.
