History

HUNTSVILLE, Texas – NM State opened its road series at Sam Houston with a late‑inning surge, stacking runs in the middle frames to pull away in a decisive series‑opening win. After trailing 1–0 through two, the Aggies punched across runs in the fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh while getting a complete effort in the circle to stay unbeaten in Conference USA play.  

Game  – NM State 8, Sam Houston 1 

Down a run in the fourth, the Aggies flipped the game on Jonnah Aragon’s two‑run home run to left, then added a solo shot from Skye Johnson in the fifth to extend the margin. Tamara Carranza opened the sixth with a solo homer and Skye Johnson later roped an RBI double, before Lauren Garcia put the game on ice with a two‑run homer in the seventh. In the circle, Faith Aragon went the distance, striking out eight and limiting the Bearkats to one run on eight hits.  

NOTABLES 


Destan Burks reached three times (2‑for‑3, double, walk) and scored a run.

NM State continues its road set in Huntsville with Game Two against Sam Houston on Saturday, March 14 at 2 p.m. at the Bearkat Softball Complex. Riding the momentum from an 8–1 series‑opening win, the Aggies look to secure the series and remain unbeaten in Conference USA play.
