SAN ANTONIO – Roadrunners basketball fans will get their first look at the 2025-26 UTSA men’s basketball team in live action on Saturday, as the Roadrunners are set to square off with UIW at the Convocation Center in a 3:30 p.m. exhibition as part of the San Antonio Challenge. Saturday’s game is a revolutionary exhibition event that directly benefits the Roadrunners’ student-athletes as part of NCAA revenue sharing.
The San Antonio Challenge is sponsored by Harvey Najim and will support reading and literacy initiatives, educational development, Harlandale ISD and the UTSA men’s and women’s basketball programs. The men will take the court following the women’s game against Texas A&M-San Antonio at 1 p.m. in the Convo.
Tickets for the doubleheader are $15 for adults and $13 for kids and military members. All seating is general admission and tickets may be purchased online here.
The 2025-26 Roadrunners are heading into the second season under head coach Austin Claunch. UTSA will put a fresh look on the floor on Saturday, with this year’s squad featuring 11 new players. The 2024-25 Roadrunners finished 12-19 in Claunch’s debut UTSA season after needing to replace 99 percent of returning minutes with 15 new players.
The UIW Cardinals were 19-17 last season in the second year under Shane Heirman. After their elimination from the Southland Conference Championships, UIW went on to win two of its three games in the Purple College Basketball Invitational. These teams have only met twice as regular season opponents, with UTSA holding the 2-0 lead after the last meeting in 2023-24 ended with a 90-80 UTSA victory.
Saturday’s exhibition game will air live on the radio in the San Antonio area on Ticket 760, featuring a 30-minute pregame and 15-minute postgame show, available online at Ticket760.com with Andy Everett on the call.
The Roadrunners will officially open the 2025-26 season on Wednesday, Nov. 5, hosting College of Biblical Studies at 7 p.m. at the Convocation Center.
