LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – The Frenship High School Chess Team made history by earning the title of JV State Champions after competing against nine teams from across Texas.
This is the first time in Frenship Chess Club history the team has taken home a state championship.
The team is now qualified for the USCF National Chess Tournament in Chicago, but needs help from the community to fund the trip.
Raising Canes near 4th Street and Frankford Avenue will host a fundraising event for the team on Wednesday, March 18 from 5 to 9 p.m.
The community can also donate by dining at BJ’s Brewhouse on Monday, March 23 from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.
