Grand Prairie City Council member Mike Del Bosque, who represented District 3 since 2017, died Friday, city officials said. He was 60.

City officials did not immediately release details about the cause of death.

“The City of Grand Prairie mourns the passing of Councilmember Mike Del Bosque,” Grand Prairie Mayor Ron Jenson said in a statement on Facebook. “A lifelong Grand Prairie resident and South Grand Prairie High School graduate, Councilmember Del Bosque served District 3 since 2017 with a proud commitment to his community. Through his work, leadership and support of students, families, and community organizations, he made a true difference in Grand Prairie.”

Del Bosque was first elected to the City Council in May 2017 and represented a district covering central and eastern parts of the city.

Outside public office, Del Bosque owned two toxicology laboratories and an injury rehabilitation center specializing in spine treatment. According to city information, he began his career as an entrepreneur at 19 by purchasing, renovating, and selling residential and commercial properties.

He graduated from South Grand Prairie High School and attended Texas Tech University.

Del Bosque was active in several community organizations, including serving on the YMCA board of directors and participating in the League of United Latin American Citizens. He also supported programs focused on students and young entrepreneurs and created the Del Bosque Family Scholarship to support students who excelled academically despite difficult circumstances.

A father of two, Del Bosque coached youth soccer and baseball when his children were younger and remained active, mentoring students in the community.

His tenure on the council included controversy last year following an altercation with a real estate broker.

In April of 2025, Del Bosque was arrested and charged with misdemeanor assault causing bodily injury and criminal mischief after an incident involving a real estate broker during a property showing at a building he owned. Authorities said Del Bosque pushed the broker to the ground during the confrontation.

Del Bosque later apologized publicly but remained on the council. The Grand Prairie City Council voted in August of last year to formally censure him after hearing from the broker involved in the incident.

Under Texas law, city councils may appoint a temporary replacement or call a special election to fill a vacant seat for the remainder of a term. City officials did not immediately announce how the District 3 council seat will be filled following Del Bosque’s death.
