Officials say there was no shooting at Saturday night’s carnival
HOUSTON – Some crowds got rowdy at the RodeoHouston carnival on Saturday night, prompting an early closure by rodeo officials.
Rumors online began circulating that a shooting happened, but Houston Police confirmed with KPRC 2 News they have no such record of that happening. Rodeo officials also said there was no gun, despite social media chatter.
A few fights broke out, but those were dispersed by HPD officers.
On Saturday night, Houston Rodeo officials said they closed the carnival “out of an abundance of caution” after a group began running. The situation caused a chain reaction, and more people started running.
“A group of individuals began running in the carnival area, which prompted others nearby to run. Law enforcement engaged quickly and we are not aware of any injuries at this time. Out of an abundance of caution, the carnival closed early. The safety and security of our guests remains the top priority for the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo.”

Sunday is Go Tejano Day at the Houston Rodeo. Operations are expected to continue as normal today.
