EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — El Paso County officials traveled to Chihuahua City last week to meet with leaders from the government of the State of Chihuahua and strengthen cross-border economic partnerships, the County said in a news release.

The County delegation met with Secretary Ulises Fernández Gamboa of the Secretariat of Innovation and Economic Development (SIDE) at their headquarters.

During the meeting, both sides discussed key areas of regional cooperation, including:

Aerospace industry development

Operational efficiencies at the Tornillo–Guadalupe Port of Entry

The creation of binational working committees focused on infrastructure coordination and economic development collaboration.

The State of Chihuahua also expressed its support of a regional industry survey designed to better understand operational efficiencies at ports of entry and identify industry needs across sectors such as aerospace and advanced manufacturing.

As part of the visit, Commissioner Sergio Coronado, Precinct 4, and Commissioner Iliana Holguín, Precinct 3, signed a non-binding letter of intent, marking the first step toward activating the Binational Public Policy Roundtable between the State of Chihuahua and El Paso County.

The initiative is intended to strengthen institutional coordination, promote regional competitiveness, and advance collaborative economic development strategies benefiting communities on both sides of the border, the County said in a news release.
