Port Aransas Police Department – Police Chief James Stokes on beach shooting (March 15, 2023)
SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — Five people are in the hospital after a shooting in Port Aransas late Saturday morning.
Officers were called to the beach around 11:40 p.m. on report of shots fired, and upon arrival they found the victims with various gunshot wounds before each was rushed to the hospital.
Ernesto Castillo, 17, was arrested and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon several hours later. Multiple reports show he was arrested just before 4:30 a.m. Sunday morning.
Detectives with the Port Aransas Police Department say the shooting happened near Beach Marker 20, and they think it all started because of a fight between two groups.
Police Chief James Stokes said during a press conference three other people were taken in for questioning, but there was no word on any additional arrests as of Sunday evening.
The status of the people shot is unknown.
The Texas Rangers are assisting in the investigation.
