A Celebration of Life will take place Saturday, March 21 at Church Unlimited on Rodd Field Road. Hernandez was killed in a two vehicle crash Friday.
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Visitation and a Celebration of Life have been announced following the passing of Leyton Hernandez.
Hernandez, 28, died after a two-car crash Friday afternoon outside the Coastal Bend according to a statement from Corpus Christi ISD.
Hernandez, the son of CCISD Superintendent Dr. Roland Hernandez, was in his fifth year as a teacher and multi-sport coach at Veterans Memorial High School. District officials said the CCISD crisis counseling team will be available to students and staff when schools reopen Monday.

A graduate of King High School, Hernandez went on to attend Texas State University, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in 2020. While at Texas State, he was a member of the Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity.
Hernandez was also known for his athletic background. He was an accomplished high school athlete and a college football recruit, and he shared a long-standing tradition with his father of attending the state football championship game together for nine years.
In a statement from CCISD, the Hernandez family said they are grateful for the support they have received from the community as they begin to process the loss.
“The Hernandez family appreciates the outpouring of condolences and warm memories as they begin to navigate this unimaginable loss,” the statement said. “They thank the community for respecting their privacy during this difficult time.”
