The city announced Monday morning that registration will run from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at One Texas Center at 505 Barton Springs Rd. People who register at One Texas Center are then transported by CapMetro to the overnight shelter location.
CapMetro routes 1, 7, 10, 20, 30, 105 and 801 will drop off there — and the city said riders heading to the shelter can board even if they can’t pay the fare.
Cold weather shelters are typically activated when the overnight forecast calls for temperatures of 35 degrees or colder, according to the city’s website.Â
While the shelters are primarily used by people experiencing homelessness, city officials say they are open to anyone who needs a warm place to stay overnight.
Families with children and unaccompanied minors seeking shelter can also receive help coordinating overnight lodging through the city’s cold weather shelter plan.
More information about shelter access is available through the city’s Cold Weather Shelter Hotline at 512-972-5055 or online at AustinTexas.gov/Alerts.
