Texas baseball outfielder Jonah Williams will have season-ending shoulder surgery, UT officials announced Monday, shutting down the sophomore’s year after appearing in only eight games this spring.

Williams was hitting .304 with seven hits and four RBIs in 23 at-bats. The two-sport athlete has dealt with injuries to his shoulder and hamstrings his first two years and has been expected to play a bigger role for Texas’ football team this fall. Williams signed with Texas as a five-star safety, but also enrolled early in 2025 to play baseball last year.

Williams is expected to be cleared for the start of the 2026 football season, according to a Texas statement.

Williams originally injured his shoulder March 6 while diving for a ball in the outfield in the Longhorns’ win over USC Upstate. The No. 2-ranked Longhorns (18-1, 2-1) begain SEC play this past weekend. In Williams’ absence, Texas is expected to turn to Ashton Larson in the outfield and Josh Livingston at designated hitter.

The Longhorns’ baseball team is 18-1 heading into Tuesday’s game against Tarleton State at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.
