HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — The Houston Fire Department is warning the public of two prescribed burns happening this week.
HFD, in partnership with Houston wildlife officials, said the two burns will be conducted at two Houston parks:
Tuesday, March 18: Sylvan Rodriguez Nature Preserve (1201 Clear Lake City Blvd.)Wednesday, March 19: Houston Arboretum & Nature Center (4501 Woodway Dr.)
Authorities said the prescribed fires are part of ongoing wildfire risk mitigation efforts.
HFD said people should expect visible smoke in surrounding areas, fire personnel and on-site equipment, and fully or partially closed parks.
“These controlled burns are planned operations designed to reduce accumulated vegetation that could fuel unintended wildfires. Recent fire incidents in Houston parks have highlighted the importance of proactive fire management,” the fire department said.
The department added that weather conditions will also be favorable.
