SAN ANTONIO – Two teenagers were arrested late March 14, 2026, after Del Rio police said they were caught racing at speeds exceeding 95 mph on U.S. Highway 90.

A Del Rio Police Department officer was patrolling near E. Gibbs Street and North Bedell Avenue at about 10:25 p.m. when he heard a vehicle rapidly accelerating, according to a department press release.

The officer then saw a white Dodge Charger traveling eastbound in the 1500 block of E. U.S. Highway 90, and began following it to determine its speed using radar.

While monitoring the Charger, the officer observed it engaged in an acceleration contest with a red Ford Mustang, police said, with both vehicles attempting to outdistance one another.

Another officer obtained radar readings indicating both vehicles were traveling at speeds exceeding 95 mph.

Police conducted traffic stops and took both drivers into custody. They were identified as Anthony Isaiah San Miguel, 18, and Aiden Luis Mireles, 17. Both were charged with racing on the highway.

The Dodge Charger and the Ford Mustang were towed from the scene, police said. San Miguel and Mireles were taken to the Del Rio Police Department and booked, then later released to the custody of the GEO Correctional Facility pending the magistration process.

The Del Rio Police Department reminded motorists that racing on public roadways is illegal and “extremely dangerous,” putting drivers, passengers, and the public at significant risk.
