AUSTIN, Texas – Governor Greg Abbott unveiled the Texas Jobs Council Monday, a partnership between business and labor leaders to enhance workforce training.

In his speech Monday, Abbott highlighted Texas’s leadership in business and job growth, ranking first in new jobs, business expansion, and capital investment.

“Texas right now is the hottest state in America for business and labor opportunities. We rank number one for the most new jobs, whether it be over the past year or since covid or since I was elected governor,” said Abbott.

The Council will focus on executive actions, policy proposals, and legislative recommendations to ensure a skilled workforce.

“For us to maintain our dominance, business and labor are working together to meet the high demand for high skilled labor positions like electricians, pipe fitters, welders, plumbers, truckers and a whole lot more,” said Abbott.

Texas has invested $7 billion in vocational education, aiming to equip students and professionals with the necessary skills.

“Our labor force built jet fighters that are being used in the war in Iran. Right now, they’re building LNG export terminals that fuel the entire world, and they are building SpaceX rocket ships that explore the universe. They truly are building and manufacturing the future of the world right here in Texas,” said Abbott.

The Governor also discussed the impact of the war in Iran on oil prices, emphasizing future abundant supply and normalization of prices.

“There are other strategies the President is working on as we speak right now to lower the price of oil. But another thing that he has explained repeatedly, and that is, as soon as this is over, there’s going to be abundant supply of oil in the entire global market that will once again return the price of oil to where it was before this war began,” said Abbott.
