Austin physical therapists accused of sexually assaulting patients, police seek more victims

  • March 16, 2026

AUSTIN, Texas (KWTX) — Austin police have arrested two physical therapists on separate sexual assault charges, both involving patients.

Paul Lietz, 37, and Manuel Rangel, 50, were each taken into custody by Austin Police Department detectives in connection with independent cases. Investigators say both men are accused of sexually assaulting patients in their care.

Two separate cases, similar allegations

Lietz worked as a physical therapist in the Mueller area. Rangel worked in the Medical Parkway area. Police say the cases are unrelated but share similar circumstances.

Both cases remain open and active. Police said they are not releasing additional details at this time given the nature of the investigations.

How to contact investigators

APD detectives are asking anyone who believes they may have been a victim of either Lietz or Rangel to contact the APD Sexual Crimes Unit at (512) 974-5095 or by email at Sex.Crimes@austintexas.gov.

Police noted that contacting APD is voluntary. Victim support services are available regardless of whether an individual chooses to participate in the investigation. The APD Victim Services Unit can be reached at (512) 974-5037.
