MOBILE, Ala. – Day one of the Magnolia Collegiate is in the books and UT Arlington’s Kamri Gabel will enter the final day of the tournament in a tie for first place. The senior is tied with West Georgia’s Emma Baier and Stetson’s Isaki Sakashita at 3-over-par 147.
Gabel’s day was highlighted by a 1-over 73 first round in which she recorded a birdie on four holes. The Highland Village-native also birdied five holes in her 2-over 74 second round. No other Maverick matched Gabel’s birdie total in either round.
Chandler Browning is the next closest UTA player to Gabel on the leaderboard. The redshirt senior is in a tie for 52nd with a 14-over 158. Browning birdied two holes in the second round — the second highest mark on the team — and parred 10 holes in the opening round.
Tied in 61st place are Carmen Gonzalez Lo-A-Njoe and Tarini Bhoga at 17-over par. Bhoga carded the most pars among the Mavericks in both rounds with 11 in round one and 12 in the second round. Lo-A-Njoe was one of just two UTA players to birdie the par-3 second hole.
Nitisha Manikandesh rounded out the Maverick lineup, posting a 10-over 82 in both rounds. The senior was the only UTA player besides Lo-A-Njoe to birdie the second hole.
The Mavericks wrapped up its day in 12th place and with a 51-over 627 overall. The final round will tee off at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Magnolia Grove – Crossings Course in Mobile, Alabama.
