Shane Porter is no longer listed on the college football roster at Sam Houston State. He ripped the program on Snapchat after his early departure.

It will mark the end of his lengthy career.

Porter played for three different college football programs in five years. However, he is perhaps best known for his videos on social media— especially TikTok.

UPDATE: This story has been updated to reflect a more accurate timeline of what happened.

Who is Shane Porter?

Porter hails from Friendswood, Texas. The 5-foot-10, 200-pound running back started his career as a wide receiver walk-on at Kansas State in 2020 out of Clear Brook High School.

He did not record a single touch during three seasons with the Wildcats but he played a crucial role on special teams in 2022 and 2023— and as a locker room guy. It just wasn’t what he had hoped.

The lack of opportunity as a ball-carrier in Manhattan led him to hit the portal.

Porter ultimately transferred to North Texas in 2024, where he finished with a team-high 643 yards rushing on 95 carries with five touchdowns. He even received an Honorable Mention All-AAC selection.

Although it was a breakout year for Porter, the Mean Green apparently did not have an extra scholarship to offer him. Eric Morris does not really use his running back so perhaps he decided not to value the position. I don’t know.

Regardless of what happened in Denton, Shane Porter re-entered the portal after the bowl game last season. The rising fifth-year senior initially committed to UTEP. He later flipped to Sam Houston State.

Unfortunately, his time with the Bearkats was a complete disaster. The coaching staff refused to use him.

Sam Houston State ran off its TikTok star.

Most people who are not fans of North Texas or American Conference football would not know of Porter without social media. 1.3 million followers on TikTok is a huge number.

He also did some acting (and modeling) during the offseason.

Things did not go quite as well on the gridiron.

Alton McCaskill, Landan Brown and Elijah Green beat him out for the vast majority of carries. Shane Porter ran the ball only two times for negative one yard in six games.

Sam Houston State dropped to 0-6 in front of a nonexistent crowd on Friday. It might actually be the worst team in the country and it is — from where I am sitting — head coach Phil Longo’s fault. Porter was fed up.

Not too long after the sixth-straight loss of his sixth season, Porter posted the following image on Snapchat:

That will be the lasting image of his time with the Bearkats.

Shane Porter is no longer listed on the roster at Sam Houston State. Multiple reports have suggested that he was cut from the team but that is NOT TRUE. Porter left the team prior to his post because of the toll it took on his body, among other things. He does has any remaining eligibility.
