PORT ARANSAS, Texas — Three people are in custody after a late-night shooting on a beach in Port Aransas that left five people wounded, according to a report from KRIS-TV.

According to a Nueces County Sheriff’s office arrest report obtained by KRIS-TV, the shooting happened after an altercation between two separate groups on the beach. During the dispute, investigators said Ernest Josiah Castillo pulled out a handgun and began firing into the crowd as he drove away in a black chevy pickup truck.

The Corpus Christi Police Department later stopped a black pickup truck with three men inside and a Glock .45 caliber handgun. Investigators matched two shell casings on the beach to the handgun found in the truck. The driver of the vehicle reportedly confirmed that Castillo fired the shots as they drove away.

KRIS-TV reports that Castillo was arrested and taken to the Nueces County Jail, where his bond was set at $500,000.

At least two of the victims were in critical condition when they were transported from the scene, according to police. The conditions of the remaining three victims had not been confirmed as of Monday.

The investigation remains ongoing.
