The latest Maxx Crosby news may make the Dallas Cowboys and Jerry Jones glad a deal to get the edge didn’t work out.

The Dallas Cowboys appeared to be close to a deal to snag Las Vegas Raiders defensive end Maxx Crosby, but now, Crosby has said he’s back with the Raiders for the 2026-27 season. Those who root for the Cowboys shouldn’t be too upset, though, based on a new report that analyzes Crosby’s doctor’s report.

Crosby’s offseason journey took a turn on March 6, when the Las Vegas Raiders worked out a trade deal with the defensive end to join the Baltimore Ravens in exchange for two first-round picks. But, on March 10, that deal fell through after Crosby’s physical, and the Ravens pivoted to Trey Hendrickson.

Now, Crosby says he’s officially back with the Las Vegas Raiders for the 2026-27 season. It was a whirlwind of a few days from Crosby, and now, a new doctor’s report may shed light into what went wrong.

Medical Expert Says Maxx Crosby Doctor Report May Shed Light Into Additional Issues

In a feature that dropped on Monday, March 16 for USA Today’s Lions Wire, Jimmy Liao, MD, says that Crosby’s “surgeon leak” may be a key reason the Ravens deal didn’t go through.

He quotes the doctor’s report, stating “…a significant meniscus tear and the related stress injury to the bone and cartilage in his knee.”

Dr. Liao notes that the “damage to the knee” is the key concern here, stating, “These words suggest that Crosby does not just have meniscus damage, but also bone and articular cartilage damage.” He adds, “If the articular cartilage damage was newly discovered (or revealed) at the physical, this could absolutely explain why the Ravens felt the need to reconsider the trade and eventually cancel it.”

Dr. Liao also says that the evidence of “any articular cartilage damage” is of concern for the player “both short and long-term.”

In conclusion, with these new findings, he projects it “will become much more difficult for the Raiders to find a trade partner willing to part with premium draft picks and pay a high salary.”

During the 2025-26 NFL regular season, according to NFL research, Crosby recorded 73 total tackles, 10 sacks, 28 tackles for loss and one interception. So, Crosby is still a high-performing defensive end, but the doctor’s report should give pause.

Maxx Crosby Could Still Get Traded Closer to the Start of the Season, NFL Analyst Says

On Sunday, March 15, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN said that Crosby could still get traded, especially as the offseason continues. During an appearance on SportsCenter on Sunday, according to Bleacher Report, Fowler said that it’s a true possibility.

“Everybody seems like they’re in a good spot, but since they’ve already looked at trading, they’re open to that possibility, potentially, if the right offer would come,” Fowler said on the show, adding that trade offers may get more persistent closer to the draft.

He added, “But right now, he’s a Raider, and that’s expected for at least a little while.” If the Dallas Cowboys do ever make another move for Crosby, they’d better think twice before they trade two first-round picks for him.
