EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14/CBS4) — A 27-year-old woman has been sentenced to five years in prison for her role in the murder of a man outside an East El Paso bar almost four years ago.

According to court records, on Jan. 29, Rachel Rivota pled guilty to aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and was sentenced to five years in prison for her role in the murder of 35-year-old Christopher Ryan Correa, who was shot dead behind the 10-4 Oyster Bar by 29-year-old Alexander Diaz on Sept. 18, 2022.

Court records show 153 days will be shaved off Rivota’s sentence as she has already served that time awaiting trial or sentencing.

Rivota was originally charged with murder, but her charge was lessened to aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

KFOX14/CBS4 has reached out to the El Paso County District Attorney’s office to learn more about how/why her charges changed.

On March 6, 2025, Diaz, 26, pleaded guilty to murder and was sentenced to 50 years in prison.

Diaz had originally been charged with murder and two counts of tampering with evidence; however, those last two charges were dropped as part of the plea agreement.

Also, as part of the agreement, Diaz surrendered all rights to appeal the court’s decisions.

As was reported, the murder happened at around 2:20 a.m., behind the bar, which is located at 12275 Pellicano Dr., near Americas High School.

According to detectives working the case, surveillance video showed Diaz confronting Correa outside the bar, before going back to his car, pulling out a rifle, walking back to Correa and shooting him at least twice.

Detectives said Diaz then could be seen walking back to the car, throwing the rifle in the trunk, walking back to pick up the shell casings (evidence of the shooting) and then driving away.

Court documents revealed Diaz was arrested that same day after witnesses identified him as the shooter.

Rivota was arrested on Sept. 23, 2022, several days after the murder, after police identified her as the driver of the car in which Diaz fled after the shooting.

According to jail records, Rivota bonded out on Jan. 30, 2023.

According to court records, the start of Rivota’s jury trial had been cancelled four times.

Court records also show that on Jan. 5, 2026, a warrant was issued for Rivota’s arrest after she violated the conditions of her bond.

Rivota was then re-arrested a couple of days later on Jan. 7.
