One man is dead, and a firefighter was injured Tuesday morning after a fire broke out at a residence in Oak Cliff, authorities said.

Dallas Fire-Rescue units responded to multiple 911 calls at 3:14 a.m. reporting a structure fire on the 100 block of West Saner Avenue. Upon arrival at the one-story home, crews encountered heavy fire venting from the rear of the building.

According to the Dallas Fire Department, firefighters faced “hoarding conditions” inside the home, which officials said hampered access and made suppression efforts more challenging. Crews worked the scene for more than an hour before declaring the fire extinguished at 4:49 a.m.

During the operation, rescue teams pulled an unresponsive man from the house. He was transported to a local hospital in critical condition and later pronounced dead. A firefighter sustained a minor upper-body injury during the response; they were taken to a hospital in stable condition and are expected to recover.
