According to officials, the westbound lanes were shut down due to the crash. About 100 passengers were on board, and no injuries were reported.
HARRIS COUNTY, Texas — US-90 Alternate was shut down on Tuesday due to a crash between an 18-wheeler and an Amtrak train.
According to Houston TranStar officials, the crash occurred around 11 a.m. near the intersection of the Beltway and US-90 Alternate, in southwest Harris County, near the Fort Bend County line. Aerial video of the scene appeared to show that the crash happened at the intersection of Cravens Road and US-90.
A social media post said that both directions were shut down on US-90, but the TranStar website said only the westbound lanes were affected.
Drivers were asked to avoid the area, if possible.
It’s unclear what led up to the crash. Amtrak confirmed its train was involved in the crash, and there were no injuries to report on the train or the 18-wheeler. Amtrak said 104 passengers (93 passengers and 11 crew members) were on the train and had to take a bus to the downtown train station to complete their journey.
Amtrak said the train was coming from Los Angeles and heading to New Orleans.

Here’s the full Amtrak statement:
“On March 17, 2026, Amtrak Train 2 was traveling from Los Angeles to New Orleans at about 11:10 a.m. CT when a vehicle came into contact with the train on Union Pacific Railroad tracks near Houston. There have been no reports of serious injuries to the approximately 93 passengers or to the 11 crew members onboard.
“As a precaution, customers were moved off of the train. They will continue east aboard chartered buses.
“According to the Federal Railroad Administration, railroad crossing incidents are the second leading cause of rail-related deaths in America. These incidents can affect everyone involved—those who are injured or die and their families, our train crews, and our passengers. They also serve as critical reminders about the importance of obeying the law and of exercising extreme caution around railroad tracks and crossings.
“Amtrak continues to work closely with Operation Lifesaver (OLI) to #STOPTrackTragedies by emphasizing the obvious dangers of being on railroad property or disregarding warnings at rail crossings.”
