Gift brings former Maverick’s support for UTA Athletics to nearly $1M in the past year

Former University of Texas at Arlington quarterback Michael Baylor (’70 BBA, Accounting) has pledged $250,000 to support the University’s Department of Athletics.

The gift is the latest example of Baylor’s generosity. Last year, he made what was then the largest unrestricted pledge in the history of UTA Athletics.

With his newest gift, Baylor has contributed nearly $1 million over the past 12 months, providing additional resources for UTA student-athletes and programs while helping the department continue to grow.

“I’m grateful to be in a position where I can help my alma mater,” Baylor said. “In this day and age, financial support is more critical than ever for athletic departments.”

Baylor enjoyed a standout career as UTA’s quarterback and was named MVP of the 1967 Pecan Bowl. He was inducted into the UTA Hall of Honor in 1987 and received the Distinguished Alumni Award in 2007.

“The philanthropic support Michael Baylor has given to our athletics department has been remarkable, and we appreciate his dedication to UTA Athletics,” said UTA Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Jon Fagg. “The impact his donations will have on our student-athletes, coaches and entire athletics department will be monumental.”

Following his graduation from UTA, Baylor became a certified public accountant and built a 37-year career at PricewaterhouseCoopers. Over the years, he has also consistently supported UTA’s Department of Accounting.

“We are thankful for Mr. Baylor’s generosity and the impact he has made on our athletics department this past year has been incredible,” said Deputy Athletics Director for Development, General Manager of Athletics Ira Childress.
