The City of Corpus Christi announced Tuesday that City Manager Peter Zanoni will begin hosting weekly media briefings starting Friday, March 20, at 10 a.m. in City Hall Council Chambers to provide consistent, transparent updates on efforts to secure a long-term water supply.

The briefings will also be livestreamed on the city’s YouTube channel, CCTVCorpusChristi.

“We are committed to providing consistent, transparent updates on the measures being taken to safeguard our region’s water supply,” the City said in a statement.

The announcement comes as Corpus Christi City Council met Tuesday to address the city’s worsening water situation, which has drawn direct action from the state. Gov. Greg Abbott has directed state agencies to expedite emergency water permits and warned Texas will step in if needed to protect residents.

His office says the state is already moving to boost short-term supply through Nueces River groundwater access and changes to regional drought triggers, while also investing billions into long-term solutions, including funding for local wells, pipeline upgrades and the city’s planned desalination plant.

Last week, Gov. Greg Abbott warned Texas could step in if local leaders do not move quickly enough to secure a reliable water supply.
