On Wednesday night, the Dallas Mavericks will host the Atlanta Hawks in Texas.

The Mavs are coming off a 129-111 loss to the Pelicans in New Orleans.

AJ Johnson finished the loss with four points, two rebounds and one assist while shooting 2/5 from the field and 0/1 from three-point range in 12 minutes of playing time.

On Tuesday, the Mavs announced that they had assigned Johnson to the G League.

Mavs PR wrote: “The Dallas Mavericks have assigned AJ Johnson to the Texas Legends of the NBA G League.”

Johnson began his season with the Washington Wizards (before getting traded to Dallas).

His total averages are 2.8 points and 1.2 rebounds per contest while shooting 32.5% from the field and 20.9% from three-point range in 39 games.

Johnson was the 23rd pick in the 2024 NBA Draft.

Before the Wizards and Mavs, he also spent time with the Milwaukee Bucks over part of two seasons in the league.

The 21-year-old has career averages of 4.8 points, 1.5 rebounds and 1.6 assists per contest while shooting 36.3% from the field and 24.8% from three-point range in 68 games.

Mavs PR wrote (on February 5): “The Dallas Mavericks announced today their participation in a 3-team trade involving the Wizards and the Hornets.

Dallas acquired Khris Middleton, AJ Johnson, Marvin Bagley III, 2 future 1st-round picks, and 3 future 2nd-round picks from WAS, while receiving Tyus Jones from CHA.”

The Mavs are the 13th seed in the Western Conference with a 23-46 record in 69 games.

They have won two out of their last ten games (and are 14-20 at home).

Following the Hawks, the Mavs will host Darius Garland and the LA Clippers on Saturday in Dallas, Texas.
