Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Calallen). They blew past the Zapata Hawks 17-1 on Tuesday. The result was nothing new for the Wildcats, who have now won 11 contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Jordyn Thibodeaux was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn’t given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with one double and one RBI.
In other batting news, Kylie Butcher was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. That’s the most runs she has posted over her last 12 matchups. Another player making a difference was Kiana Vargas, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.
Calallen always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .655. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Zapata only posted an OBP of .267.
Calallen is on a roll lately: they’ve won eight of their last ten games. That’s provided a nice bump to their 17-8-1 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.9 runs over those games. As for Zapata, their loss dropped their record down to 11-8-2.
