EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — The El Paso Police Department issued more than 11,000 citations during a six-week Traffic Safety Blitz.

During the 45-day enforcement period from Jan. 1 to Feb. 15, El Paso Police issued 11,378 citations “to help keep our roads safe,” El Paso Police said.

Here is a breakdown:

6,301 citations issued for hazardous violations. These are moving violations that put others at risk, including speeding, running red lights and reckless driving.

5,004 citations issued for non-hazardous violations. These are administrative or equipment violations like expired registration, license or vehicle issues.

3,357 warnings. Drivers were stopped and educated without receiving a citation.

73 Class C misdemeanors. These are more serious misdemeanors under Texas law.

Police said the campaign was done to help keep the El Paso community safer.
