Two Arlington restaurants failed during the March 1-14 round of inspections due to several critical health violations, according to data from the city compiled by the Star-Telegram.

Arlington restaurants are scored on a 100-point system, with 100 being a perfect score. Restaurants and other places that serve food that score 75 or less require a follow-up inspection, and a score of 70 is considered extremely poor.

Asian Bowl at 285 Southwest Plaza scored 68 on March 4. The inspector found evidence of pest contamination, according to a city of Arlington spokesperson. Equipment needed cleaning and some food wasn’t being held at a safe temperature.

Jamaica Gates Caribbean Cuisine at 1020 W. Arkansas Lane also scored 68 on March 4. Some employees weren’t properly washing their hands or using gloves, the spokesperson said. Also, some of the restaurant’s equipment was non-commercial grade.

Both restaurants are scheduled for follow-up inspections in the near future, according to the spokesperson. A third restaurant scored close to 70. The establishment passed, but will require a follow-up inspection.

Mahogany’s Chop House And Lounge at 1700 W. Park Row Drive scored 73 on March 5.

About 124 inspections were conducted over the two-week time period. Eight establishments, including Burton Adventist Academy, Jean Massieu Academy and T.A. Howard Middle School, received a perfect score of 100.
