LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – A weak front will slip south Wednesday morning, shifting winds to the north-northeast and dialing back Tuesday’s breezy conditions. Even with slightly higher humidity, afternoon temperatures will still climb into the 80s across the region.

Wednesday night will stay mild, with lows generally in the 40s under dry air that allows temperatures to fall quickly after sunset.
The bigger story arrives late week as strengthening high pressure pushes much hotter air into West Texas. Forecast guidance shows rapid warming in the atmosphere, a setup that often translates to unusually hot afternoons at the surface.

Highs are expected to trend warmer each day into the weekend, with the best chance for records coming Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
If you have outdoor plans this weekend heat safety may be needed earlier than usual for mid-March, especially during the afternoon hours.
