Douglas Lyons made his Broadway playwriting debut with Chicken and Biscuits, a family comedy set at a funeral where old dirt gets dug up. It became the second most produced play in the country during the 2022-23 season, including by Uptown Players.

Now the Dallas company is mounting the regional premiere and first fully staged version of Lyons’ Pure Glitter. It too revolves around the spilling of secrets, this time at a 10th anniversary surprise party thrown by one member of a gay couple. When uninvited exes show up, chaos ensues.

The prolific theater artist’s plays are not only regularly seen in New York and across America, but he’s also a musician, Broadway and tour-show actor (The Book of Mormon, Beautiful, Parade, Rent and Dreamgirls) and wrote for the Apple TV series Fraggle Rock.

March 20-29 at the Kalita Humphreys Theater. Details, tickets at uptownplayers.org.
