SAN ELIZARIO, Texas (KFOX14/CBS4) — Police documents reveal that the incident, where two suspects were arrested for allegedly breaking into a home with baseball bats and injuring a man, involved a mother and a son going after the mother’s ex-boyfriend for some money.
On March 13, Magali Reyes Chaparro, 35, and her son, Kevin Eduardo Varela Reyes, 18, were arrested after they were accused of assaulting people at the 1300 block of Four-Wheel Drive south of San Elizario.

Newly obtained police documents reveal that the victims (Chaparro’s ex-boyfriend and his mother) told investigators the duo, with other suspects, arrived at their home armed with baseballs and a tire iron, first demanding the ex-boyfriend’s mother to surrender her son.
Then, the victims said that when Chaparro’s ex-boyfriend ran away, heading to a home nearby where he had been staying, the suspects chased after him.
The victims told investigators the suspects swung their bats at them, demanding money from the ex-boyfriend; money the ex-boyfriend said he didn’t have.
The victim then described that they managed to push the suspects out of the home and locked themselves in, protecting the children who were inside the house.
However, according to the victim, the suspects battered the front door– smashing the glass; a front door the homeowner said is worth $700.
As a result of the incident, the ex-boyfriend was taken to the hospital with a cut on his hand and an injury on his forehead.
Deputies with the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office managed to find the suspects after one of the victims received a call, saying that someone had spotted one of the vehicles the suspects arrived in at an apartment complex.
According to the police documents, when deputies were heading towards the apartment complex to continue their investigation, they spotted one of the suspects’ cars.
When they pulled over the car, they found suspect Reyes behind the wheel.
Deputies asked him where Chaparro was and he said she was at home with her children.

At the same time, the property manager spoke with deputies and told them that the second vehicle authorities were looking for was parked illegally at the back of the complex.
Deputies inspected the vehicle and saw that it matched the description of the suspect’s car.
As a result, the deputies then used their patrol speakers to call Chaparro to come out of her apartment.
According to the police documents, Chaparro then surrendered, walking out of the apartment with a juvenile suspect and two of her children.
The juvenile suspect was released as his involvement is still under investigation.
Deputies remained on the scene with the two children until the responsible parties showed up.
