Police are responding to a shooting incident at the Austin Central Library in downtown Austin on Saturday afternoon. Emergency personnel are on the spot as investigations continue.
Initial witness reports suggested multiple victims, but official updates confirm that at least one person has been shot. The extent of the injuries is currently unknown, and no further details about additional casualties have been released.
Police Response
Videos from the spot show police cars and emergency teams outside the library on West Cesar Chavez Street. Officers are actively clearing the building amid concerns about an active shooter, ensuring the safety of everyone inside.
SWAT teams are clearing the multi-story library floor by floor, searching for a suspect who remains at large.
Suspect Description
Austin Police said, “Austin Police (APD) officers are working a critical incident at West Avenue and Cesar Chavez. At this time, we can confirm one victim has been transported to a local hospital. The suspect remains outstanding. He is described as a thin Black male, and was last seen wearing a gray hoodie, green shorts, black pants, black shoes, and two black bags. If you see this person, call 911 immediately. DO NOT approach.”
The officials are continuing their investigation into the incident.
Another Incident
In another incident, a large party in rural southeastern North Carolina turned deadly when gunfire erupted, leaving two people dead and 11 others wounded, including several in critical condition, authorities said.
The incident occurred outside Maxton, near the South Carolina border, prompting an immediate response from Robeson County homicide investigators.
Sheriff Burnis Wilkins’ office said that 13 individuals were shot.
