Corpus Christi Veterans Memorial is 8-2 against King since April of 2019 and they’ll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Eagles will venture away from home to take on the Mustangs at 6:00 p.m. The last three games Corpus Christi Veterans Memorial has played have been within two runs, so don’t be surprised if it’s a close one.
On Tuesday, it was close, but Corpus Christi Veterans Memorial sidestepped Gregory-Portland for a 2-1 win.
Jordan Garza spent all seven innings on the mound, and it’s clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on three hits and racked up seven Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn’t given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Ryan Morgan, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and one triple. That home run was his first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Jonathan Reyes, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI.
Corpus Christi Moody hit King with a four-run second inning on Tuesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Mustangs came up short against the Trojans, falling 8-0. The loss continues a trend for the Mustangs in their meetings with the Trojans: they’ve now lost three in a row.
Corpus Christi Veterans Memorial has been performing incredibly well recently as they’ve won seven of their last eight games. That’s provided a nice bump to their 17-3 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.9 runs on average over those games. As for King, they now have a losing record of 8-9-2.
King’s hitters will have their work cut out for them on Thursday. Corpus Christi Veterans Memorial has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.6 strikeouts per game. It’s a different story for King, though, as they’ve been averaging only 4.1 strikeouts. Will Corpus Christi Veterans Memorial keep running through batters, or will the Mustangs buck the trend?
Corpus Christi Veterans Memorial was able to grind out a solid win over King in their previous meeting back in April of 2025, winning 5-0. Will the Eagles repeat their success, or do the Mustangs have a new game plan this time around? We’ll find out soon enough.
