A February collision between a motor vehicle and a pedestrian in the 9300 block of Menchaca Rd. resulted in Austin’s 15th fatal crash of 2026.
The Austin Police Department issued a press release about the incident on Wednesday. According to the press release, police responded to a report of a crash involving a vehicle and a pedestrian on Menchaca Road.
The pedestrian, 24-year-old Jefferson Gustavo Ramirez Ramirez, was transported to a local hospital. He was pronounced dead on March 6.
The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation. This incident is being investigated as Austin’s 15th fatal crash of the year. At this point in 2025, the city had seen seven fatal crashes resulting in seven deaths.

The city’s 14th fatal crash of the year occurred on Sunday, March 1 at approximately 2:14 a.m. Officers responded to a collision involving two motor vehicles and a pedestrian in the 3100 block of State Highway 71 eastbound.
According to APD, the first vehicle that struck the pedestrian fled the scene before police arrived. The driver of the second vehicle remained on the scene, was not impaired, and is cooperating with the investigation. The pedestrian was pronounced dead on the scene.
